Community Involvement
First Tennessee Bank
First Tennessee Bank located near the school has committed to a $25,000 donation. The school will receive a $2,500 scholarship for a graduating senior in the Law, Business, and Public Affairs academy for ten years. This will start with the graduating class of 2010.
Newpaper Partnership and Grant
Hardin Valley Academy's newspaper, The Hawkeye, has won the American Society of Newspaper Editor's grant for the 2008-2009 school year. The purpose is to establish partnerships between daily newspapers and individual high schools or school districts. The immediate goal is to create high school newspapers where they don't currently exist or dramatically improve existing papers. As a result, there will be a greater influx of diverse young people interested in making journalism a career. Partnerships are initiated by a daily newspaper, which seeks out a school in its community to mentor.
The grant consists of a $2500 award, and forms a partnership between Hardin Valley Academy, The News Sentinel, and Pellissippi State Technical Community College.
